Updated: Aug 16, 2022

On Thursday, Mar 31st, guest speaker Chris Feldt gave a speech on various historical topics related to Pickens County that occurred between the years of 1776 and 1978. His speech covered such topics as:

· The Cherokee Indian War

· The Land Lottery of 1832

· The Indian Removal

· 20th Century Land Development in the area

· Historic Arsons and Tornado Outbreaks

· The Dude Ranch

· The Civilian Conservation Corps in Pickens County

There was a wonderful turnout of over 70 Pickens County residents.

Chris’s speech was given during the first public meeting held by the Pickens County Historical Society in over five years.

The members of the Pickens Historical Society said it was encouraging to see so many people turn out, showing a clear appreciation of history. The society has been working during the pandemic phase to recondition the Old Jail, but now plan more activities and events. Thank you for putting together the presentation from all your research, photos and interviews. I am a direct descendant of John Hendrix, but I don’t live in GA, nor have I visited Pickens County yet. So, being able to see old maps and photos compared to current day settings is really interesting. My dad remembers visiting during the summers as a boy and teenager in the 1940s.
